The downloads come in the form of a ZIP files that contains two files: the E-Book in the DNL format, and the "DNLSETUP.exe". The Reader is extremely small, but only has to be entered into you computer once. Thereafter, it will decode all of our E-Book DNL files.

For your convenience, GoldenArk has adopted the policy of offering our downloadable E-Books with a choice of two Modem speeds:

(1) FAST Modem Version: for DSL (Broadband or Cable) modems.  This Version usually takes less than five Minutes to complete. The E-Book, with all of the Media, is self-contained making it independent of the Internet when opened on your computer. These E-Books are Multi-Media: in addition to the printed Text, they also contain one or more of the following Media elements: Illustrations, Music, Videos,  General Audio Files, and /or Audio Files with a dramatic Audio Reading of all or part of the story.
(2) SLOW Modem Version: for (Dial-up slow modems) All Text and illustrations (if any) are present, but ALL OTHER MEDIA is striped from the E-Book in order to increase the download speed. It also is completely self-contained.

Multi-Media DNL Files: A NEW Format Explained

DNL Files (.dnl} have many advantages over the Executable Files (.exe) that we have published in years past. EXE files give hackers an opportunity to play mischief with the files. That is why administrators of computer networks do not favor the downloading of EXE files. To work around that problem, GoldenArk has been using ZIP files that are usually permitted by computer networks.

DNL files for the publication of E-Books has proven to be a better solution since it resists hacking efforts. DNL files consist of data only rather than regular computer code. Security is maintained by the fact that the users who download DNL E-Books first download a very small Reader program just one time. It takes up very little space on the user's computer. After that, all future GoldenArk E-Books using DNL files can be read without having to download the reader again.

Standard Download Instructions For All Multi-Media E-Books:
Suggestion
: Copy these instructions and Print them for your future reference.

[a]    Download the E-Book's ZIP file to you computer DeskTop:
Download times have been tested as follows:
DSL (Broadband) Modems download the ZIP files in
under 5 Minutes
Dial-Up Slow Modems vary in accordance with Service Provider and phone line.

[b]    Once the ZIP file is downloaded to your DeskTop (recommended), Double-Click
         the Icon
to make it open.

[c]    When the ZIP file opens on your DeskTop, you will see a rectangle with two files listed along the bottom: A DNL file that contains the E-Book, and an EXE File that contains the Reader.
If you have have never loaded the GoldenArk Reader into your computer before, (none of Goldenark's other E-Books ever needed it), then highlight the READER presented: either "dwbreader.exe" (older) or "dnlsetup.exe" (newest that works with BOTH XP and VISTA Operating Systems. Then click on EXTRACT, one of the tool Icons on the horizontal list along the top.  In the future this need not be extracted and installed again; it only needs to be done one time on your computer.
The first file on the list, (FileName.dnl), contains the entire E-Book and all the Media files. You click this DNL file to highlight it as before, and then click on EXTRACT.

[d]   CONCLUSION:
The extracted files are now installed and opened by double-clicking on their Icons. If you extracted the Reader for the first time, the Icon will be a large blue circle with DWB in white on its face. It resembles the icon we use for other non-media E-Books. Since it is a one-time installation, you can delete the icon when you are finished.
The Icon for the DNL file that contains your E-Book is a white square with a small blue circle in the center. Double-clicking it opens the E-Book, and you want to permanently keep this in a secure and safe place.
