IMPORTANT 2007 UPDATE ON THE DOWNLOADING OF FILES:
When GoldenArk first began publishing E-Books in 2001-2002, all of its books were in the EXE (application) format. If they contained Audio files or Video files, those files were streamed separately from our GoldenArk website.
In 2006 we began publishing all NEW E-Books in the DNL format which is an Ultra-Secure format. By way of contrast, the DNL files contain only data, and in addition require a small reader to be installed on your computer. Many of our new E-Books are Multi-Media containing voice, music, video, and even instruction. All DNL File E-Books are 100% self-contained and secure. Once you download one, you never have to signon to the Internet for any additional media parts if any. During 2007, we hope to convert ALL Books past and present in all catalogs to the DNL Format. For our earlier books this is a slow process, so please be patient with us. We hope to complete the process by the end of 2007.
THE

HOW TO DOWNLOAD FILES: Follow the steps below:
FOR E-Book Files Ending in (.EXE):
You are asked to click on the Green Door. If the file
to be loaded has the ending: (.EXE), do NOT be startled if your computer
asks you whether you know the persons or organizations offering the download.
The reason is that an EXE file (executable file or application file) can
be infected with a virus, and windows wants you to be cautious. We at GoldenArk
have a high quality security system in place. You can download our files
with confidence. Follow these steps:
[1] After clicking on the
Download Link, acknowledge the caution from the computer and proceed. Choose
to Save the file to your DESKTOP.
[2] When the file finishes downloading, you will easily find the program
file on your desktop. Simply double-click it and the E-Book opens (Be patient).
No other special software is needed.
[3] To READ a E-Book: After it opens, turn pages FORWARD, by clicking
anywhere on the edge of the RIGHT page; turn pages BACKWARD, by clicking
anywhere on the edge of the LEFT page. To close the MiniBook, right click
on the X in the upper right hand corner as usual, or right click on any page
with your mouse and choose EXIT from the menu which appears. A major advantage
of E-Books is that they can also be printed out on your Printer and read
offline.
FOR E-Book Files Ending in (.ZIP): These E-Books are the easiest to download and are absolutely the most secure. The reason is that they contain only DATA and a Reader, no code that can be hacked! When you click the ZIP file, it opens to reveal two files: the E-Book .DNL file, and the READER.
The Reader is an EXE file, is extrememly small , and only has to be installed once on the computer you are using in order to read any E-Books that we publish now and in the future. It only takes a moment, and your computer reports that the Reader has been successfully installed.
DNL E-Book files are
in a condensed format, are easily downloaded with no warnings, but have to
be extracted (restored) first. [1] Just highligh the DNL file. [2] Then,
look along the top of the ZIP form and click on the word EXTRACT.
It then asks for a destination; we advise you save it to your DESKTOP
at least for now because you can easily find it again. [3] If the E-Nook
did not automatically open when you look on the Desktop, simply click on
it to open.
FOR AUDIOFILES or MUSIC
FILE
DOWNLOADS:
You are asked to click on the image of a MICROPHONE. After
you acknowledge the caution from the computer about downloading programs,
choose to Save the file to your DESKTOP
(c:\windows\desktop). Keep in mind that all downloaded AudioFiles are
ZIP files. When you place one on your
Desktop,
you must
DOUBLE-CLICK
the file to begin the UNZIPPING
process.
A small screen opens to give you complete
directions.
Then follow these
steps:
[1] The AudioFile needs the RealOne Audio Player to be heard. Make sure that
the speakers are turned on attached to your computer. We highly recommend
that you have a Shortcut for your RealOne Audio Player on your Desktop. Although
sometimes it will open automatically, most often you have to physically open
it.
[2] When the player first opens, it plays a few notes of music to let you
know that it is ready. Then click your left mouse button on the Player's
File menu and choose the OPEN command in order to open the AudioFile on your
Desktop. Choose the DeskTop directory, and click with your left mouse button
the name of the downloaded file. That is all there is to it. The file will
load in the player, and then all of the controls on the player will work:
Play, Forward, Back, Pause and Stop.
** If you still haven't downloaded the Free RealOne Audio Player, click on the number three [3] on the Menu at the bottom of this page in order to go to that download page. **
IF YOU GET AN ERROR WHEN TRYING TO OPEN
ANY
MINIBOOK:
The problem is probably with your computer's color settings. The MiniBooks
have a lot of color. Check the following settings on your Control Panel.
Follow these steps:
[1] On your DeskTop go to START/ SETTINGS/
CONTROL PANEL/ DISPLAY/ and finally SETTINGS.
[2] Look at the bottom of page at color settings. Press the down arrow to
see your choices.
[3] MiniBooks work best with 16 Bit High Color or 32 Bit High
Color. Do not confuse these settings with
regular 16, 32, or 256 Bit colors.
You must use the "High Colors."
